First post
I hope this works. I am a little... a lot late on this and have to get a move on. So I did my first art lesson on friday, and well it did not go as smoothly as I had intended. It also took a little longer than it should have. But the end product was good. I think the problem was there were too many things going on at once and everyone was definitly at different stages in the project. They were working with glue, pastels, paintbrushes, cutting, and this thin paper stuff. I think it may of been a little too much for grade 4 and 5 maybe. While I limited the amount of instruction I gave, students were still all over the place. Trying to get ahead led some of them into heading in the worong direction which also had to be fixed. Overal it was fun though, I guess. haha

Hi, Adam. Better late than never...glad to see your first blog post. I'm just now linking your blog so that it can be accessed from the course blog.
I bet the students had a blast! And you can only learn and go up from that lesson. I felt the same with my first art lesson!
I can relate when you say that it may have been too much for the grade level. I came down from a 5/6 in my last practicum to a grade 3 class and I really struggled sometimes with bringing the content down to their level. I also dealt with a messy art project, but it was fun and that's all that really matters!
Yay for you for trying something that may have been a bit more difficult! Great idea and now you know what to do differently next time.
Yes, teaching art can be a challenge sometimes. :) The kids do seem to be all over because they are so hyped up and so excited. Nice to see you reflecting on it... each art lesson will be unique in its own way. :) That's the beauty of art.
Impressive! Good for you for challenging your students!
